Looking for the 'traditional' Oven Mitt?

I've got a few options - but none of them are truly 'traditional'.

Traditional Oven Mitts don't really FIT!

There are gaps around your fingers, above your thumb & between your thumb & fingers. It's a wonder that we don't drop those hot items we're trying to grab!

Hands vary so you can easily vary your seam allowance to make them an even better fit.  Once you try these templates, I know you'll agree~ these oven mitts will fit better!

And with my No Slip Backing, you can easily customize to get the perfect FIT.

- The Original 'Shorty' Oven Mitt may seem small but it's just the right size to protect your fingers & hand from the hot oven or hot items from the microwave.  Those gaps are gone!  Stay tuned as I'll be adding my Cut Marks to this little guy soon!

- My NEW Shorty Long is almost identical to the shorty but it's a bit wider at the base & longer to cover more of your forearm so no worries about getting burned by that hot oven!  It's got Cut Marks to make cutting into that curved area easier.

- My NEW Oven Mitt for Men was a customer request & designed for man hands!  Just like my 2 Shortys, there's less space above the thumb, around your fingers & there's less of a gap between the thumb & fingers.  Men will be pleasantly surprised - but you may have to point it out to them!

All templates feature my gray No Slip Backing.  That makes cutting easier, faster & more accurate. No paper templates needed!  No Slipping; No Kidding! 

Cut Marks between the thumb & finger make cutting area easier.  (I've updated my Shorty Template to include Cut Marks but I need to update the pics.) 

To Cut:

• Want to add straight line quilting to hold your layers together, give some structure & add a nice touch?  Grab one of my Quilting Rulers to use a sewing guide before you do any cutting.  My sample was made using the 1" x 10" Ruler.  (I'm hoping to have a video soon to show how easy this is!)
  
• Want a hanging loop/tab/strap?  My 2" x 6" Ruler is the perfect size.  Fold like binding & add at the bottom when sewing your layers together.
  
• The Cut Marks will make cutting so much easier!  If you have a 28mm cutter, you can use it but a 45mm will work just as well. If you're not too comfortable with a rotary cutter, grab a marking pen & sharp scissors. Before you cut, trace around the curved areas & the gap area, then rotary cut.  If needed, use sharp scissors to get any area that you missed.

These are all fun, quick, easy projects!  Make it scrappy or do a Quilt As You Go method or just use whatever fabrics that you love.  The Oven Mitt for Men is a perfect for canvas, blue jeans, duck cloth, flannel & more.  Add embroidery to personalize~

BONUS:  I made a Shorty Mitt to keep at my ironing board. I use it when I need to press projects in tight spots. When turning a project right sides out, I stick my mitted hand inside the project & iron from the other side without burning my hand. Make a fist & place it at the bottom or the sides when pressing.  What a difference!
