Check out my new V2 Base made for unusual fabrics like Dish Mats, Vinyl, Pleather, Oil Cloth, etc. New Videos coming soon, too~
My friend, Darla Bucalo, 1st introduced this fun zippered pouch to me - and it has been a favorite to many of you. Recently, Darla's been making them out of Dish Mats! This great 'material' offers an outer fabric, lining fabric and interfacing all in one. No need to quilt, press, or spray baste your layers together. With this fun 'fabric' you can make the Open Wide Pouches even faster & nicer!
My Original Open Wide Template was perfect when using fabric. But the Dish Mat material doesn't fold in half easily. So, I created a V2 Base Template to easily cut not only Dish Mats, but fusible foam, vinyl, marine, vinyl, pleather, cork, oil cloth, laminated fabric & such.
Like the Original, it comes in 2 sizes - Sm & Large.
Darla used webbing for her Handles so we created Handle Placement Templates in 2 sizes. The Original 6" x 3" Handle Template is great to cut your fabric. The new Placement Template works well for fabric handle placement, too.
The Original also had Add On Templates in Sm & Lg. These make the Gusset/Side Pockets as well as a zippered bottom pocket. The Side Pockets, made with fabric, keep all of your goodies inside your pouch. They can be attached by hand sewing or machine sewing or with Rivets & a Kam Snap.
My Original Open Wide Bundle with 5 Templates included the V1 Base Sm & Lg, the 6" x 3" Handle & the Add On Templates in Sm & Lg.
Now, you've got loads of options in case you've already purchased some of the original templates. Not sure what to buy? Call & I can help decipher.
Plus, I'll be adding Dish Mats in various sizes, colors & patterns in the future. If you see something you like & don't want to wait, call me.
Read on for more on the Open Wide Pouch.
--------------------------------------------------------
"Open Wide Pouch has been popping up everywhere! The zipper dissects from the bottom of one side to the top of the other making it a fun cube when closed. Unzipped, it lays flat and wide open so you can easily access your make-up, tools, and more. Choose a cute fabric to hold little toys for your favorite little one!
I’ve seen it called a Magic Pouch, a Cube Pouch, and more. Whatever you call it, my Open Wide Templates will help you make them faster, easier & better!
My friend, Darla Bucalo, made the 2 aqua samples shown from patterns that she drafted. Those patterns turned into templates with several key features:
- The No Slip Backing ensures that all layers and pieces you cut will be accurate and consistent.
- The Template Cut Marks help make the Boxy Bottoms easy and consistent.
- The Halfway Mark provides a guide if you want to make either size a bit larger or smaller.
You’ll find the Open Wide Templates in 2 sizes - Sm & Lg. I’ve also added an optional template called the Add-On for each size. The Add On Template has ½” markings on 2 sides to create the Inserts/Gussets, Bottom Zippered Pocket and Side Pocket.
Here are the template options:
- Sm & Lg Open Wide Templates -Original V1 for Fabric
- Sm & Lg Open Wide Templates - V2 for Dish Mats & unusual fabrics
- Sm & Lg Add On Templates - create the Gusset/Side Pockets or Zippered Bottom Pocket
- 6" x 3" Handle/Strap Template - for both Sm & Lg, Original Vq & V2
- Sm & Lg Handle Placement Templates for both V1 & V2
You can purchase in a number of configurations. Of course, the more you buy, the better the price!
There are currently 2 videos. The 1st shows me cutting with the Original V1 Open Wide Sm Template and Darla sewing a pouch! You’ll get to see the zipped pocket that she added on the bottom of the larger sample and the additional side pocket. The 2nd video provides more details that are very helpful.
