Ditties are perfect for all your little Doo Dads & Ditties!
If you're familiar with my Ditties, these cute little baskets are a big hit!
I now have new sizes and styles as well as 2 videos:
Sew Ditty Baskets for your Doo-Dads
Sew Ditty Baskets with Pet Screen Material!
As with all of my Templates, the No Slip Backing makes cutting a delight! Everything is accurate & easy.
Template Cut Marks make it easy to cut out with your rotary cutter going right into the inside corners - allowing for clean cuts!
Choose From:
- Ditty Baskets – square shaped
- Ditty Trays – shallow square shaped
- Ditty Baskets Rectangles - rectangle
- Ditty Baskets Short – shorted square shaped
Ditty Basket Sizes:
- Original 7.75" (approx. finished size - 2 1/2" wide at bottom; 2 1/2" tall)
- Original 8.5" (approx. finished size 3" wide at bottom; 2 5/8" tall)
- Original 9.25” (approx. finished size 3 1/8" wide at bottom; 2 7/8" tall)
- 8" x 8"
- 9" x 9"
- 10" x 10"
- 11" x 11"
- 12" x 12"
The 3 Original Ditty Baskets were ¾” different in size. This is fine if you’re working with cotton. But if you want to use Pet Screen Mesh and the Tape Measures like Darla & Karen then you’ll want sizes that are 1” different in size. If you choose ¾” difference, they won’t sit inside each other as you can see in the pics. I don’t have pics of the new 1” difference for the Pet Screen Mesh style.
Ditty Baskets Short Sizes:
- 7"
- 8”
- 9”
- 10”
- 11”
- 12”
Ditty Trays Sizes:
- 7”
- 8”
- 9”
- 10
Ditty Rectangle Sizes:
- 9” x 7”
- 12” x 7.25”

My video shows how easy it is to make a fabric Ditty Basket. I also show the new sizes plus the 2 new styles.
Darla and Karen’s video shows making the Ditty using Pet Screen, fabric plus 4 pieces of cut and taped measuring tape. Here’s some of what you’ll see:
· Pet screen cut with the Ditty Template to make the base.
· Fabric sewn to each of the 4 edges to create a 'casing'.
· From a measuring tape, 4 pieces cut and taped to go into the fabric 'casings'.
· A strip of fabric sewn 'binding style' finishes off pet screen raw edges inside of the basket.
What you’ll see in the pics:
· My 3 Ditty Baskets using the same geometric fabric for bobbins, threads, etc.
· Three gorgeous Ditty Baskets filled with beautiful lace bookmarks made by Pam Neal. Beautiful!
· Cute Ditty Baskets from Joni Londo in fun fabrics!
What can you do with a Ditty?
· Hold bobbins, buttons, threads, etc.
· Hold Office Supplies - paper clips, sticky notes, coins, etc.
· Perfect for little one’s little things!
· Place cash or a gift card at the bottom of the Ditty then fill with candy or treats. It’s the perfect gift!
· Nest the baskets to make a nice gift.
I used Pellon Fusible Fleece on the outside quilting cotton layer and SF101 on the light canvas lining fabric with about 1/4" seam allowance.
How to Make:
Be sure to check out the 2 videos on Ditties.
Fold outer fabric diagonally in half & sew both sides.
Then fold in the opposite & sew those sides.
Repeat for the lining.
Tuck outer fabric into the lining fabric with rights facing & stitch around top leaving ‘almost’ one side unsewn.
Turn right sides out.
Play with it to make it look nice & press well.
Topstitch around, closing opening area as you go. Couldn’t be easier or faster!
