Everywhere you look, you see those adorable stuffed pumpkins! I love the traditional oranges & greens but I am really loving the sweet, delicate, non-traditional fabric choices, too~
These 'petal-shaped' templates come in several sizes:
- Small 3.5" x 7.25"
- Medium 4.25" x 8.75"
- Large 5" x 10.25"
The simple shape and my No Slip Backing make cutting fast, easy and accurate!
So many fabrics to choose from: cotton, flannel, plaids & checks, homespun, polar fleece, felt, wool felt, minky, home dec, etc.
Choose the same fabrics or choose a variety. Don't want traditional pumpkins? Add doilies and lace ribbon.
Raid your closets for recycled clothing and table wear. Don't forget to look for vintage hankies, doilies, napkins & tablecloths to get that sweet look.
Cut 6 petals - with or without batting - and stitch them 2 or 3 together then stitch those together. Or cut 5 or 7 petals to change the look.
Stitch right sides together and turn right sides out.
Or, for a rustic look, stitch wrong sides together and use a toothbrush to rough them up or use pinking sheers. Flannels, and homespun fabrics work well for this style.
For more definition, before sewing petals together, add a gathering stitch by hand or machine down the middle. Once petals are sewn together, pull the threads to gather.
Use poly-fil for stuffing or add cedar shavings, or even a kitchen scrubby to make a pin cushion. Add a favorite scent to take it even further!
Once your pumpkin has been stuffed, embellish with fun stem options like a wine cork, a thread spool, a cinnamon stick, a twig from your yard, a rectangle of felt rolled then glues or stitched, etc.
Add raffia. Grab a leaf from silk plants or your craft supplies or cut your own out of felt, wool felt, burlap and more.
Add a chenille stem (pipe cleaner) that's been wrapped around a pencil for fun curly cues.
If you're crafty, grab twine, a knitting needle or plastic stirring spoon and Modge Podge. Wrap the twine around the knitting needle or handle and cover twine with Modge Podge. Remove from the spoon when dry. Don't have these items? They're all at the Dollar Tree!
