My Ditty Baskets and Finished Sizes:
I created the 3 Ditty Basket Templates in the same geometric fabric to keep organized at my sewing machine & cutting table. I needed to keep bobbins with 100% cotton thread separate from other bobbins. I also wanted baskets to hold my small 100% cotton spools of thread, clips, ribbons, embellishments & such. Plus, they’re just the right size for your office to hold paper clips, sticky notes, coins, etc.
They are the perfect size for those things – and very satisfying to make!
The 3 baskets nested make a nice gift.
Or add a little something like candy & a gift card & it makes the perfect gift!
I don't usually post 'finished sizes' for projects because seam allowances and stabilizer choices can make a big difference.
But, I've had requests so here are my finished sizes for my Ditty Basket samples.
Templates in 3 Nested Sizes:
- 7.75" x 7.75" (approx.. finished size - 2 1/2" wide at bottom; 2 1/2" tall)
- 8.5" x 8.5" (approx. finished size 3" wide at bottom; 2 5/8" tall)
- 9.25" x 9.25" (approx. finished size 3 1/8" wide at bottom; 2 7/8" tall)
I made the first Ditty at 9" x 9" then changed it to 9.25" x 9.25" so that the 3 could be nested. I decided to add the 9" x 9". If you're looking for just one size - and - you're looking for a good deal, the9" x 9" is the one to get!
BTW - I used Pellon Fusible Fleece on the outside quilting cotton layer and SF101 on the light canvas lining fabric with about 1/4" seam allowance.
To Make - see pics:
- Similar to my Ice Cream Cozy Template, you’ll fold outer fabric diagonally in half & sew both sides. Then fold in the opposite & sew those sides. Repeat for the lining. Tuck outer fabric into the lining fabric with rights facing & stitch around top leaving ‘almost’ one side unsewn. Turn right sides out. Play with it to make it look nice & press well. Topstitch around, closing opening area as you go. Couldn’t be easier or faster!
No video but these are made (almost) like my Ice Cream Cozy (no points!) so check out that video here: Cute Ice Cream Cozy makes a great Gift!
